About Shenzhou

From family legacy, to the fifth generation'scontemporary practice

Shen Zhou, who learned his craft systematically from his father in his youth, has applied his family's accumulated knowledge and experience to every step of creation, assembly, and decision-making in the contemporary workshop, continuing the fifth generation of the family tradition.

His practice is rooted in traditional scholarship but also engages with the structure, assembly, ornamentation, and overall expression of contemporary works. Each creation involves reinterpreting the purpose, aesthetic, and technical conditions, rather than simply replicating traditional forms.

This continuously accumulating experience also forms the basis for today's bespoke commissions: starting from the use case and aesthetic preferences, and then determining the form, materials, and overall expression.

He continues traditional processes while constantly addressing new applications, aesthetics, and work structures, allowing traditional craftsmanship to evolve continuously through practical creation.
