Gentleman's Sword

Dark scabbards, clean lines, and minimal metal embellishments give it an understated elegance, without ornate fittings to draw attention.

The black and gold color scheme combined with the mythical beast imagery on the fittings creates a distinct identity, with a strong sense of power concentrated in the pommel, guard, and scabbard fittings.

Emperor's Sword

Emperor's Sword

The golden fittings, dark scabbard, and striking pommel create a strong contrast, giving the overall design a more opulent and ceremonial feel.

About Shen Xinpei

Do one thing in a lifetime, let judgment reside in the sword

From learning his craft with his father as a boy to decades of repeated forging, grinding, and assembly, his understanding of materials, firing, grain, and form comes from every actual creation.

In decades of sword-making practice, each piece requires a fresh consideration of its purpose, aesthetic, and the available craftsmanship. What truly defines a piece is not a fixed style, but the relationship between the material's condition, the form's proportions, and the overall expression.

These experiences also form the basis for commissioning custom pieces today: first, understanding the use case and aesthetic preferences, then determining the form, materials, and fittings, rather than simply replicating a historical piece.

Family tradition brings not only a set of procedures, but also observations accumulated over a long period when dealing with materials, and a judgment of the overall proportion of the work and its relationship with the fittings.
